The MacPherson family came originally from Scotland. Some stories of that trek are gripping. When the young man of the family decided to go to Canada to build a new life for his family, his goal was to acquire land and build a home and then send for the rest of the family.
In Scotland, the family received the letter from their son, telling them that he had started on building the house and it surely would be finished by the time they arrived in Canada.
The family set sail to Canada, the father was in a wheelchair and so the mother was the one to carry the load and push him all at the same time.
They arrived in Canada and at that point a trek began across Canada with her pushing the wheelchair all the way across the countryside on their way to find their son. No for of travel except their feet. They fought the cold and unsheltered darkness of the night. More than once the mother had to fight off wolves to keep her and her husband safe.
They finally arrived in the town where their son had set up the homestead. As they asked around about where to find him, to their shock, they were taken by a townsman to where the house was supposed to be only to find a grave where their son was laid. While working to buil a home for the family and during the cutting of a tree, the son was killed by a falling tree.
Devastated by the loss, the leftover family members did what they could to secure any kind of shelter and so the trials began for survival.
Today the remnant of that family and their efforts have sustained a future for the MacPherson’s that live today.
